Elections Team Discuss Poll Preparations with Police Chief
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Representatives from the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (INEBC) held talks with the Police Chief Brigadier Asad Abdullahi as part of its consultations with key institutions following its recent formation.
The two sides discussed the role of the police in preparing for the one-person, one-vote elections set to commence from later next year, starting with elections at the federal member states.
Brigadier General Assad assured the Commission of his force’s support and commitment in ensuring security for the historic exercise, which effectively transitions Somalia into multiparty democracy.
He said that the force has full authority to protect polling stations, prevent anything that could disrupt the electoral process, and ensure that the elections are held in a peaceful environment.
The 18-member Commission was formed last month following the passage and adoption of three election related laws among them the Political Parties Act, The Elections Act and the INEBC Act.
