GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission (INEBC) has launched a voter registration campaign in Jalalaqsi district of the Hiiraan region, as part of ongoing efforts to advance the country’s electoral transition.

The commission, Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission, said the launch marks a significant step toward expanding citizen participation ahead of planned one-person, one-vote elections.

The ceremony was led by electoral officials stationed in Jalalaqsi and attended by members of the local administration, highlighting cooperation between federal institutions and district authorities to facilitate the registration process.

INEBC officials said the campaign aims to ensure eligible residents in Jalalaqsi are registered to vote in upcoming elections, in line with Somalia’s broader democratic reform agenda.

They urged citizens to actively participate in the exercise, emphasizing that voter registration is essential to strengthening the credibility, transparency and inclusivity of the country’s electoral system.

Somalia is working to transition from its clan-based indirect electoral model to universal suffrage, a process authorities say will enhance democratic accountability and national stability.
