Ethiopian Airlines Plane Denied Entry to Somalia

Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somalia Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has denied an Ethiopian Airlines plane that was flying to Hargeisa, the Second capital of Somalia entry into the country’s airspace.

The plane, flight number ET8372, was turned back from the airspace of the Republic of Somalia on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, in what the Authority said was due to “lack of proper authorization.”

In a statement, SCAA, stated that the plane violated the international air rules and the civil aviation regulations (SOMCARs) rules, which require flights to obtain licenses from the countries they fly through and those they land in prior to departure.

The SCAA further said it will not allow any unauthorized aircraft to enter the country’s skies maintaining that it will work closely with its international partners to ensure the country’s borders are guarded.

The agency however confirmed that the regular flights are going as usual.
