Ethiopian choppers conduct aerial strikes on Alshabab hideouts in Bay

Ethiopian helicopters have conducted aerial strikes in Bay region, a first since the troops were incorporated into AMISOM a few months, sources have said.

AMISOM mandate does not include air power and all strikes in Somalia are unauthorized.

The strikes reportedly hit near Burhakaba town, where suspected Alshabab members were regrouping according to sources.

Journalists and residents told Goobjoog News that they could see military helicopters flying out and in from Baidoa airport. The base is run by Ethiopian troops together with Somali National Army.

AMISOM troops recently recovered Dinsor town, which was the main city held by the rebels in the region.

There is no report on casualties and the scale of the damage yet.

Kenyan troops under AMISOM have been conducting airstrikes in the most southern parts of country, with sometimes reports of civilian deaths.

A similar air strike last week in the same area allegedly killed 10 people.
