Ethiopia’s Somali state says reports of foiled ‘coup attempt’ ‘baseless’

GOOBJOOG NEWS/ADDIS ABABA: Ethiopia’s Somali regional Minister of Information Abdulkadir Rashid Du’ale has rubbished claims made by some Media outlets saying that authorities in the Somali region had thwarted a coup attempt by members of the ruling party.

While speaking in an interview with the BBC Somali Service, the  Information Minister termed the allegations as  “baseless”, adding that there was no official communication made to Ethiopian media about reports of a foiled coup attempt.

However, Abdulkadir Rashid Du’ale said that authorities had foiled a recent attempt made by some infiltrators and anti-peace reformists who were out to disrupt peace and stoke unrest in the region.

Over the past few weeks, Somalia’s regional state has been in a state of serious turmoil following revolts, civil disobedience and protests of all scales against Mustafe Omar’s reign.

Just recently, two young men were killed by police for what was described as extra-judicial killings by the Omar administration, after protests broke out against the Somali regional state president.

The Somali Regional State has however , announced a zero tolerance policy for any anti-peace elements, vowing to act tough on anyone bent on disrupting peace and security in the region.
