EU announces new financial support for Somalia, Mauritius
EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, announced on Thursday new support to Somalia worth 73 million euro during a meeting with Mohamed Omer Arteh, Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia.
This funding will go towards state building, security, and enhancing youth employment, according to an European Commission statement.
Mimica also signed an agreement with Bibi Ameenah Firdaus Gurib-Fakim, President of the Republic of Mauritius, for support worth 9.9 million euro to help the country become a knowledge-based and innovative society by improving the quality of education.
In statements to the press, the leader of Mauritius said the signing of the deal “is a defining moment in ties between Mauritius and the EU.”
The announcements were made at the sidelines of the European Development Days, Europe’s leading forum on development and international cooperation taking place in Brussels on Thursday.
