EU Unveils $7 Million Aid Package to Support Somalia’s Humanitarian and Rights Efforts
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The European Union has announced more than $7 million in new funding for Somalia to support humanitarian relief and strengthen human rights protection, a package officials say will reinforce the country’s broader stabilisation efforts.
EU Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro said the funding is designed to boost the work of Somali civil society in promoting peace, improving living conditions and advancing rights protections at a time when drought-driven humanitarian needs continue to rise.
The announcement follows recent meetings between Somali officials and international partners, where officials agreed to intensify joint efforts to assist communities hardest hit by the crisis.
The federal government of Somalia and donors have committed to a coordinated approach aimed at easing immediate suffering while building long-term resilience.
European officials said the new support is intended not only to help address urgent drought impacts but also to strengthen Somalia’s capacity to withstand future shocks, reflecting the EU’s long-term focus on sustainable development and rights-based governance.
