EU vows to continue supporting Somalia’s development projects
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The European Union has promised continued support for Somalia’s development initiatives as the country continues on its road to stabilizing the country and restoring vital services to its citizens.
While meeting the European Union Ambassador to Somalia Karin Johansson in Mogadishu Wednesday, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre expressed his appreciation to the EU for its continued support to Somalia, especially in the fight against Al-Shabaab and the provision of humanitarian and development assistance.
Ambassador Johansson on her part reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s road to peace, prosperity and socio-economic stability.
She praised the Somali government’s efforts and progress in building a federal state and holding elections. She also stressed the importance of enhancing dialogue and cooperation among all Somali stakeholders.
The Joint Operational Roadmap agreed upon between the European Union and Somalia is the result of extensive consultations between Mogadishu and Brussels, and covers three main areas: inclusive politics and democratization, security and stabilization, and socio-economic growth.
