GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Thursday announced a cabinet reshuffle, appointing new ministers and removing others in changes that affect several key government portfolios.

The changes were formalised through a decree issued from the prime minister’s office and read to the media by the Federal Government spokesperson, Abdinasir Ahmed Baashir.

Under the decree, Ambassador Jamal Mohamed Hassan was appointed Minister of Commerce and Industry. Jamal previously served as Minister of National Planning and is described by the government as having extensive diplomatic experience.

MP Ayuub Yusuf Ismail was named Minister of Public Works and Reconstruction. He is currently a member of the House of the People and previously served in the Upper House of Parliament.

The decree also removed two cabinet members from their posts: MP Geesood and MP Ilmi Mohamed Noor. Both had been serving as ministers prior to the reshuffle.

According to the prime minister’s office, the changes were driven by the need for institutional reform and to accelerate government performance.

Prime Minister Hamza said the reshuffle was part of broader efforts to strengthen state institutions, improve the effectiveness of ministries, and align government work more closely with the country’s development priorities.
