Ex-Police Man Sentenced to Death for Murder of Senior Police Officer
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: A military court sitting in Mogadishu as sentenced a former police officer to death for the killing of Brigadier General Salad Mohamed Guled, a former head of the Somali Police Force’s communications and technology department, who was murdered at his home in June.
The court on Thursday, October 22, sentenced former police officer Jamaal Hassan Abdulle to death by firing squad as retribution for the killing, while a second defendant, Mustaf Hussein Guure, also known as Kaamil, was handed a one-year security detention sentence.
The verdict was announced by Colonel Hassan Ali Nur Shute, chairman of the first-instance military court, according to information released by the court.
Jamaal, who served as the general’s personal guard, was accused of shooting Guled three times with an AK-47 rifle at his residence on June 1, 2026, following a dispute over a government-issued firearm.
According to the prosecution’s account, the rifle had allegedly been sold by Jamaal, who used the proceeds for online betting. The dispute reportedly arose after he was instructed to return home without the missing weapon.
The prosecution further accused Jamaal of attempting to conceal evidence after the killing, including wiping blood traces and disposing of spent bullet casings.
The second defendant, Mustaf, an information technology specialist and a friend of the general, was accused of assisting in concealing the crime, misleading investigators and remaining at the scene after the shooting without providing assistance to the victim.
The court proceedings followed a request by the Office of the Military Prosecutor to bring the case to trial, which was approved on October 19.
The ruling marks the conclusion of the trial at the first-instance military court. Further details on any appeal or the implementation of the sentences were not immediately available.
