Ex-President Mohamud rebukes Farmaajo for closing doors on poll talks
Former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has lashed out at President Mohamed Farmaajo over the decision to proceed with elections despite calls for consensus building.
The former president said it was irresponsible for the Federal Government to continue with the elections at a time the country was going through a crisis that calls for talks among the country’s leadership.
“The issue of today’s elections is a process that requires trust and consensus,”Mohamud said noting ‘the country was in disarray.
His remarks followed an announcement by the Federal Government to continue with elections despite calls by opposition groups and a section of Federal Member States. Prime Minister Mohamed Roble announced Sunday the elections will proceed following talks between Farmaajo and three FMS leaders.
South West, Galmudug and HirShabelle presidents met with Farmaajo Saturday and agreed to proceed with the elections.
