Exodus of hundreds of families in Galgadud region
Large numbers of Somali families in Heraale location in Galgadud region are forced to flee after the arrival of Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama’ah security forces yesterday in the area.
Some of the local people confirmed to Goobjoog News that they have seen nearly 10 battle vehicles locally known as ‘technical’ belonging to the moderate Islamic movement.
One of the local ‘peace makers’ in the area who spoke to Goobjoog News on condition of anonymity explained the situation on the ground by saying hundreds of families fled from the area due to presence of heavy armed personnel and battle vehicles and the locals are in the dark as to why such large weapons are brought to their region. This usually portends an impending conflict according to the feelings of the local people.
“Since the collapse of the central government of Somalia, the local elders and Islamic scholars used to keep law and order in this locality and they agreed not to under come any authority until new government comes into power in Somalia” said the local peace maker.
Galmudug administration had an impasse with the local Islamic movement known as Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama’ah for sometime but the new leader Ahmed Duale Haaf who was elected in March 2017 has pledged to take this organization on board and extend a reconciliation hand to them.
