Experts Gather in Nairobi to Tackle Drought Crisis in Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has convened a high-level conference in Nairobi to strategize on mitigating the risks of the ongoing drought in Somalia.
The five-day conference, organized in partnership with the African Risk Capacity (ARC), aims to develop a comprehensive drought risk reduction plan.
The event brings together SoDMA officials, ARC representatives, and members of START NETWORK, a key partner in disaster response.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, SoDMA Commissioner Mohamud Moallim Abdulle emphasized the importance of collaboration, revealing that representatives from Somali government institutions—including members of the Federal Parliament and the Ministry of Finance—will join discussions in the coming days.
Somalia joined ARC in 2021 after meeting the eligibility criteria, and Abdulle noted that the focus now is on securing drought-related compensation to bolster the country’s recovery efforts.
