The news was confirmed by Somali presidential information director, Abdirashid Mohamed Hashi, who said in a statement that,” National Security Adviser to President Mohamed Farmaajo, Fahad Yasin has today taken over his duties following recent appointment. Fahad thanked President Farmaajo for the role while promising to serve the nation with continued dedication & patriotism to enhance security.”

Fahad Yassin took over as National Security Adviser from Abdisaid Muse Ali, the current chief of staff at Vila Somalia in a brief ceremony at the Presidential Palace on Sunday attended by the commanders o fsecurity chiefs, according to the deputy commissioner for security and politics of Benadir region Ali Yare Ali.

Fahad Yassin takes over the crucial role amid political tension between outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.

The feud started with the death of the NISA agent, Ikran Tahlil, which prompted the Prime Minister to sack Fahad as he was deemed as prime suspect in Ikran’s murder, a move that was opposed by Farmaajo and intensified to a point when Farmajo reduced the powers of the Prime Minister.
