Family of Woman Burned to Death by Husband Welcomes Court Verdict
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The family of Luul Abdicasis, the Somali woman who died after being set on fire by her husband in Mogadishu has said it was satisfied by the verdict delivered by the Banadir Regional Court over the case.
The Banadir Regional Court on Wednesday declared Sayid Ali Moalim Daud, the husband of the deceased guilty of murdering his wife Luul Abdiasis Mohamed on January 26 before feeling.
He was arrested on February 5 and airlifted to Mogadishu for trial.
The court proceedings which were beamed live on TV and attracted attention from Somalis at home and abroad concluded last week after several witnesses appeared before the court.
An underage daughter of the man also testified before the court in what was criticised as additional trauma to the child.
Importance of Justice
Sheikh Abdizais Mohamed, the victim’s father said the verdict emphasizes the importance of justice in cases of such crimes and sets an example against perpetrators of domestic violence.
“Happiness cannot be expressed adequately. I sought justice, and by the grace of God, justice has been served,” said Sheikh Abdizais Mohamed.
He added that the family will finally lay their daughter to rest saying they had put the burial on hold awaiting the court’s verdict.
“We will lay her to rest on Friday, during the blessed month of Ramadan, as a symbol of closure and justice,” he stated.
Mohamed further expressed gratitude to the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali people for their support as they sought justice for their late daughter.
The court’s verdict has been met with widespread approval from the Somali people who widely condemned Luul Abdicasis’s tragic fate.
