Five UPDF Soldiers Feared Dead, Three Rescued After Crash at Aden Adde Airport

GOOBJOOG NEW|MOGADISHU: The fate of five Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) remains unclear amid fears of death as the AU mission says three occupants of an aircraft that crash-landed in Mogadishu this morning have been rescued.
“Three of the eight passengers on board were immediately rescued and rushed to the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) Level II hospital in Mogadishu for medical attention,”AUSSOM said a statement.
It added that ‘search and rescue operations are currently underway to retrieve the remaining crew and passengers.’
According to AUSSOM, the aircraft crash-landed shortly before touching down at Aden Adde Airport on its way from Beledogle military base in the Middle Shabelle region.
The aircraft caught fire and plumes of smoke could be seen from the distance.
