FEIT clears five Benadiri seats
GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: The Federal Electoral Implementation Team has issued a statement saying that the commission appointed by the Prime Minister to resolve the dispute over the five Benadiri seats has resolved the controversy and therefore, elections can proceed as planned.
The elections for the five seats which were to be held on February 21 were called off after some leaders of the Benadiri minority community alleged that a seat belonging to their subclan was given to another subclan.
This prompted the Prime Minister to institute a commission tasked with investigating the allegations, whereupon he would come with the final solution.
The Federal Electoral Team through a statement has therefore informed the Somali community and the country’s election stakeholders that elections can proceed without further ado.
