Federal Government Reaffirms Commitment to Constitutional, Inclusive Elections

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering an inclusive, constitutional and transparent electoral process, despite recent tensions surrounding national dialogue talks.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, the government emphasized that its primary objective remains the successful implementation of an agreed electoral framework that reflects the aspirations of the Somali people while safeguarding national unity.

The talks held at Villa Somalia on Feb. 18 were designed to build consensus on three key pillars: establishing a federal election advisory committee, agreeing on a timetable for regional elections, and convening a broader national summit in April 2026 to consolidate political understanding.

The government reiterated that all reforms, including the proposed transition toward a “one-person, one-vote” system, will be pursued within the bounds of the Provisional Constitution and existing legal frameworks.

It stressed that dialogue remains open to all political stakeholders willing to engage constructively and within constitutional parameters, underscoring that national stability, institutional continuity and public confidence in the electoral process are top priorities.

“The Federal Government of Somalia is committed to delivering an election process that meets the aspirations of the Somali people while preserving unity and constitutional order,” the statement said.

The renewed pledge comes as Somalia prepares for critical political milestones, with the administration signaling that consensus-building and adherence to the rule of law will guide the next phase of reforms.
