Federal Government Condemns Arms Seizure by Militia in Central Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia has condemned the illegal seizure of arms by local militia in Galgaduud, central Somalia.

In a statement, Internal Security ministry said security forces had intercepted two trucks transporting a large shipment of weapons and ammunitions in Galgaduud region believed to be from Ethiopia when armed militia launched an attack and seized some of the weapons.

“The government condemns this unlawful activity and vows to take strict action against those involved. We urge local leaders and the community to cooperate with the government to ensure these weapons are returned to government hands to prevent further escalation of violence in the region,” the statement reads in part.

The Ministry emphasized that the smuggling of weapons not only undermines national security but also fuels instability in the region.

The federal government announced that it has launched an investigation to identify those responsible and to recover the stolen weapons.

It further appealed to local leaders for assistance in tracing the weapons and preventing their use by unauthorized groups.
