Federal Government Condemns Deadly Clashes in Awdal, Urges Calm and Dialogue
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia has condemned the outbreak of violence in Borama, Awdal region, calling the incident “regrettable and avoidable” and urging all sides to de-escalate tensions.
In a statement, the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation sent condolences to families of those killed and wished a quick recovery to the injured. It warned that the violence risks aggravating an already fragile situation.
The ministry called on Somaliland authorities to address the concerns raised by communities in Awdal and to take responsibility for preventing further unrest.
The government also appealed to traditional elders, religious figures, business leaders, women, youth and the wider public to exercise restraint and work to preserve peace. Dialogue, it said, should remain the primary avenue for resolving grievances.
Mogadishu added that it stands ready to support medical treatment for those wounded and to assist in any humanitarian response needed following the incident.
