GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has pledged stronger collaboration with the private sector as part of efforts to improve the business climate, boost investment and accelerate industrial growth, officials said after talks between the commerce minister and business leaders in Mogadishu.

Minister of Commerce and Industry Jamaal Mohamed Hassan told representatives of the Banadir business community that the federal government would align its policies more closely with private sector needs, a move aimed at easing operational constraints and supporting long-term economic recovery.

“The government is committed to working hand in hand with the business community to remove barriers to growth and create an enabling environment for trade and investment,” the minister said, according to a statement released after the meeting.

The pledge was welcomed by business leaders, who said clearer regulations, predictable policies and improved cooperation with government institutions would help expand local manufacturing, reduce dependence on imports and open new export opportunities.

Officials said the discussions focused on practical steps to support domestic industries, streamline import and export processes and attract capital, particularly in logistics and production sectors. The government’s commitment, they added, is expected to provide greater confidence for both local entrepreneurs and foreign investors.

Business representatives highlighted the sector’s role in job creation and revenue generation, saying stronger public-private partnerships could help modernise trade systems and integrate Somalia more firmly into regional and global markets.

Somalia has been seeking to strengthen its economy through private sector-led growth, with the government increasingly positioning itself as a facilitator rather than a barrier to commercial activity, as it works to stabilise the country and promote sustainable development.
