GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has reaffirmed its commitment to national unity and inclusive dialogue, saying talks with the Future Council remain open despite recent disruptions.

In a statement, the government said it had taken concrete steps to establish a broad and structured consultative process, in line with its constitutional responsibility to preserve the unity and cohesion of the Somali state.

Officials said a federal technical committee was formed to oversee preparations and widen participation, including consultations with intellectuals and representatives from different sectors of society.

The committee also held several meetings with a technical team from the Future Council, during which procedures for the planned dialogue were agreed, the statement said.

The government acknowledged that an incident on Feb. 1, 2026, as well as delays involving some Future Council delegates, had disrupted the process and affected the planned timetable.

Despite the setback, the government said it remains committed to resolving outstanding issues through dialogue, consensus and mutual respect, guided by national interests. It said the approach takes into account Somalia’s humanitarian challenges and ongoing security operations against militant groups.

The government urged all stakeholders to engage constructively in the dialogue, saying inclusive participation was essential to strengthening peace, unity and Somalia’s political future. It expressed optimism that the upcoming conference would move forward and deliver meaningful outcomes.
