Federal Government Urges Dialogue, Rejects Southwest Decision to Suspend Cooperation
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia has expressed concern over rising political and security tensions in South West State, calling for dialogue while reaffirming its commitment to stability and national unity.
In a statement, the Federal Government of Somalia said it is closely monitoring developments in the region and is actively working to ease tensions through engagement and reconciliation efforts.
The government commended the people and administration of South West for their role in safeguarding unity and contributing to key national priorities, including the constitutional review process and democratization initiatives.
However, it strongly condemned the decision by South West authorities to suspend cooperation with the federal government, stressing that such actions risk undermining progress made in security operations against extremist groups.
It also emphasized that federal institutions will continue to carry out their constitutional responsibilities across the region, regardless of the political dispute.
The statement urged the South West leadership to remain committed to dialogue and reconciliation, while calling on elders, community leaders, and political actors to avoid steps that could escalate tensions and threaten peace and stability.
