Federal lawmakers head to Kismayu in show of confidence for new assembly

A section of Federal lawmakers landed in Kismayu Wednesday following the swearing-in of new state assembly Tuesday.
The legislators headed to Kismayu in what is seen as a show of confidence in the new parliament which was elected in a heavily contested race.
The visit by the legislators follows an endorsement of the new assembly by opposition leaders among them UPD chairman and former president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, head of Himilo Party and former president Sheikh Shariff Ahmed, Wadajir party leader Abdirahman Warsame among others.
The state assembly will elect a new speaker August 17 ahead of presidential elections August 19.
