Federal polls body to elect new chairman today
Goobjoog News: The Federal Electoral Implementation Commission (FEIT) is set to elect a new chairman in Mogadishu today to replace the former commission’s chairman, Mohamed Hassan Iro following his ouster from office by the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) members.
Iro, a close Farmaajo ally, was removed from office after only serving for a period of six months following accusations of violating the neutrality of the election and attempting to rig the election in favor of the outgoing president.
The contest for chairman of the electoral commission has turned into a fierce battle in Mogadishu as both Farmaajo and Roble’s side each want their candidate to take the position.
The election of the near chairman is expected to expedite the elections in Somalia which have come to a meltdown following a series of delays running into a year.
