FGS Announces Amnesty to Jubbaland Soldiers After Beled-Haawo Clashes

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GEDO: Beled-Haawo district commissioner, Shire Abdullahi Keynaan, has announced that the Federal Government of Somalia is granting amnesty to Jubbaland soldiers positioned outside the district in a bid to ease tensions following deadly clashes.
Speaking at a press conference, Governor Keynaan said the offer applies to all Jubbaland fighters in the vicinity of Beled-Haawo who have previously engaged in combat against federal forces. He urged them to surrender and cooperate with government troops to benefit from the amnesty.
“The Federal Government is ready to grant amnesty to Jubbaland soldiers outside the district if they surrender and cooperate with the government forces,” the governor said.
Keynaan also appealed to the Kenyan government to uphold good neighborly relations with Somalia and assist in disarming Jubbaland forces who have crossed into Somali territory from the Kenyan side.
The governor further called on local residents to work closely with security forces to maintain stability and avoid actions that could fuel insecurity.
His remarks come less than 24 hours after heavy fighting erupted in the district, leaving both Federal Government and Jubbaland administration soldiers dead or wounded, including senior officers on both sides.
