FGS to Establish New Administration in Gedo Amid Fall-Out With Madobe

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GARBHAREY: Authorities in Gedo region have confirmed that the Federal Government of Somalia is pursuing a plan to establish a new Jubaland administration, with Garbaharey city proposed as its temporary headquarters.

The announcement was made by Abdirashid Janan, recently appointed by the federal government as the head of security and stabilization in Gedo. Speaking to local media, Janan said the plan is genuine and forms part of ongoing efforts by Mogadishu to fully integrate Gedo into the federal structure of Jubaland.

This development comes shortly after talks in Kismayo between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Jubaland leader Ahmed Madobe ended without a clear breakthrough. The discussions had been aimed at easing long-standing tensions between the two sides over control and representation within Jubaland.

In recent weeks, reports have circulated suggesting that the federal government intends to form a parallel Jubaland administration to strengthen its influence in the region — a move observers say could further strain relations between Mogadishu and Kismayo.

Analysts warn that the new plan could escalate the political rift between the Jubaland leadership and the federal authorities, as each side seeks to consolidate power in southern Somalia.
