The confrontation is said to have begun near the city’s livestock market (Suuqa Xoolaha), where witnesses described sustained gunfire and the use of heavier weapons. The fighting reportedly involves forces aligned with South West State President Abdi Aziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen and an opposition group identifying itself as the “South West Salvation” forces.
