GOOBJOOG NEWS | WASHINGTON: Finance Minister Bihi Iman Egeh wrapped up a week of high-level engagements at the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, using the platform to advocate for stronger international support to tackle climate change and advance Somalia’s economic reform programme.

Speaking at a plenary chaired by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, Egeh underscored the severe impact of climate change on Africa’s economies, calling for sustained investment in resilience, recovery, and sustainable growth.

Egeh also held bilateral talks with key partners, including the United Kingdom delegation, where discussions centred on mobilising investment and rebuilding climate-affected sectors, and the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF), whose Director-General Fahad Al-Turki reaffirmed continued support for Somalia’s fiscal and financial reforms.

The Minister said Somalia remains committed to implementing wide-ranging economic reforms, deepening international partnerships, and strengthening institutions to ensure long-term stability and growth.

His participation in the Washington meetings reaffirmed Somalia’s growing engagement in global economic governance and its determination to align reform with climate resilience and sustainable development goals.
