Firdhiye Urges Las Anod Residents to Register, Strengthen Northeastern Statehood

GOOBJOOG NEWS | LAS’ANOD: The newly formed Northeastern Somali administration on Tuesday launched voter registration in Las Anod, in what its leaders called a step toward strengthening legitimacy and establishing democratic governance.
President Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Cali, known as Firdhiye, urged residents to register in large numbers, saying the exercise would put the state on equal footing with other federal member states recognized by Mogadishu.
“Our people must go to the polls and organize themselves. I have full confidence Northeastern Somalia will make a strong impact in national elections,” he said at the ceremony.
Somalia’s Interior Minister Ali Yusuf Ali (Hosh) echoed the call, stressing that both Somalia’s Provisional Federal Constitution and the region’s charter guarantee citizens the right to vote. He described the launch as “a historic moment” marking preparations for direct elections.
The voter registration drive is the first major political milestone for the Northeastern Somali administration since its recent formation amid shifting dynamics in northern Somalia.
Leaders pledged an inclusive system of governance that ensures citizens access essential services and representation.
