First Somali Female Senator Elected Today in Galmudug

Zamzam Dahir Mahmoud becomes the first Somali female senator to take to a seat in the Upper-house. She easily defeated her other female contender Fadumo Mo’alim Omar with 65 votes.

Zamzam now joins four elected males out of eight seats from Galmudug state. The remaining three seats will be contested tomorrow- sunday, which will then qualifies  Gamudug to be the first state to do upper-house elections.

South west state of Somalia also scheduled to hold upper house elections tomorrow-Sunday.
