Five children die of measles in Sool region
Five children have in the last 24 hours succumbed to measles attack in Las Anod town, in Somaliland’s Sool region.
Goobjoog News correspondent in the town, Farah Dubad says that the outbreak killed five children as the drought continues to ravage the region.
Scores of other residents are infected but cannot access health centres.
The deaths occurred in the last 24 hours following the outbreak of the disease some two weeks ago.
Some of the patients are undergoing treatment at Las Anod Hospital while others, among them adults, have been treated and discharged.
The symptoms of measles include inflamed eyes, cough, sore throat, fever and blotchy skin rash.
The outbreak follows another deadly cholera outbreak especially in central Somalia which has claimed hundreds of the lives in the recent past.
