GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called on young people to channel the same enthusiasm they showed at the Banadir Region Districts Cup final into active participation in the upcoming local elections.

Speaking before a packed Mogadishu Stadium, where tens of thousands gathered to watch Hoolwadaag defeat Warsheikh, Mohamud said the turnout was proof that the capital is regaining stability and public confidence.

But he stressed that the significance of the moment goes beyond sport.

“Youth, the same way you came out in large numbers for this match, you must come out for the elections,” the president said. “Elect leaders who can represent your interests and your neighborhoods. The decision is in your hands.”

Mohamud said the peaceful gathering demonstrated that citizens are ready for political engagement and that Mogadishu is capable of hosting secure, public democratic events.

He congratulated Hoolwadaag for winning the tournament and commended all participating teams and supporters for promoting unity and fair play.

The president’s remarks come as preparations continue for district-level elections in Banadir — expected to mark a key step in expanding local representation and strengthening Somalia’s governance system.
