GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: Forces loyal to former South West State president Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen have reportedly taken control of Bardale district in Somalia’s Bay region, marking their third territorial gain in two days amid escalating political and security tensions.

Local reports indicate that the forces entered Bardale on Friday, although the circumstances surrounding the takeover and whether any fighting occurred remain unclear.

The reported capture comes as armed groups aligned with Laftagareen expand their presence across Bay, raising concerns about further confrontations in the region.

Other forces are reportedly advancing towards Dinsoor district and the Awdiinle area, both in Bay region, as military movements continue in areas surrounding Baidoa, the administrative capital of South West State.

The developments reflect deepening tensions linked to the political dispute over the leadership of South West State, where rival political factions have been competing for influence and control.

Baidoa remains a key political and security centre in southwestern Somalia, and any further escalation in surrounding districts could complicate efforts to maintain stability in the region.

The reported territorial gains also come as Somali government forces continue operations against Al-Shabaab in parts of Bay, where the militant group maintains a presence in rural areas.

There has been no independently verified information about casualties, the extent of the forces’ control over Bardale or their next movements.

The situation remains fluid, with further developments expected as rival forces reposition across the region.
