Foreign Minister Abdi Ali Urges Stronger Coordination as Drought Strains Communities

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali has called for tighter national coordination and increased international support to confront worsening drought conditions, during a visit to the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) headquarters in Mogadishu.

Ali was briefed on the agency’s early warning and humanitarian monitoring systems, which track climate-related shocks across the country.

The minister praised the agency’s response efforts, particularly its support to vulnerable communities facing prolonged dry spells and water shortages.

He said Somalia needed a unified national framework to speed up relief delivery and deepen coordination with international partners, warning that recurrent droughts continue to threaten lives and livelihoods.

Ali also urged Somalis at home and in the diaspora to show solidarity by backing ongoing relief operations, saying collective action would be key to mitigating the humanitarian impact of climate change.
