Former Al-shabaab militant surrenders to security forces in Lower Jubba

GOOBJOOG NEWS | LOWER JUBBA: A former Al-shabaab militant has surrendered himself to government forces in Lower Jubba region.

Speaking to journalists after his surrender, Hassan Hussein Ibrahim who also was known by his nickname “Gerdhuub” said he made the decision due to the various hardships he faced during the five years he spent with the militant group.

He added that he was also disturbed by the problems the group caused to the Somali people and called on members of Al-shabaab to surrender and support government’s efforts to rebuild the country.

The Federal Government has been making efforts to liberate various parts of the country previously under the control of Al-shabaab and has called on its members to take advantage of the government’s amnesty and rehabilitation programs to those who surrender.
