Former Hiran Governor assassinated in Mogadishu
Goobjoog News/Wadajir: Former Islamic Courts official and governor of Hiran region Abdirahman Ibrahim Maow was felled by an assassin’s bullet in Wadajir district in Benadir region last night.
Abdirahman Ibrahim Maow was shot dead shortly after exiting a Mosque in the Wadajir district of Mogadishu after the Islamic night prayers.
According to police sources, the former governor sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the upper torso. The gunmen then fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Al-Shabaab has since claimed responsibility for the shooting to death of the former governor in Mogadishu last night according to militant websites, even though it is still unclear the motive of the killing.
Assassination of politicians in Mogadishu has escalated in recent times especially now that the country goes through a tight election period, with government security forces facing a rough time taming the vice.
