Forum on Combating Misinformation and Incitement Enters Second Day in Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The two-day forum aimed at addressing misinformation and incitement to violence and their effects on peace and stability in Somalia which kicks of Monday enters entered its Second Day Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Information Minister Daud Aweis opened the crucial forum, which brings together key stakeholders, experts, and policymakers with the aim of devising effective strategies to curb these harmful activities and bolster national integrity.
During his opening remarks, Mr. Minister Aweis emphasized the need for unity in tackling the challenges posed by misinformation and fake news and highlighted the role of modern technology in combating these issues.
“Misinformation and inciting violence threaten our hard-earned peace and stability. It is imperative that we come together to develop robust strategies to prevent these harmful activities,” Minister Aweis stated.
He called for collaborative efforts to foster a media environment that promotes accuracy, trust, and national unity.
The first day of the forum featured in-depth discussions on various strategies to counter misinformation. Experts presented insights into the legal measures that can be implemented to combat the spread of fake news and incitement to violence.
Participants explored the role of digital literacy, responsible journalism, and the use of technology to detect and prevent the spread of false information.
Highlighting the importance of protecting national integrity, Minister Aweis stressed, “As we continue to rebuild our nation, it is essential to protect the integrity and trust of our people. We must harness the power of technology to ensure that information shared is accurate and contributes positively to our society.”
Today, the forum continues further discussions focusing on practical implementations of the strategies discussed and enhancing cooperation among different sectors to combat misinformation effectively.
