Free our sons, Parents of Florida arrested migrants tell US government

Parents of over forty Somali migrants arrested in United States have called on US government to release their children.

Anod Mohamud Yussuf, who is the aunt of Abdullahi Mohamed urged Somali government to intervened the situation and ask US to free her son and other boys who were detained after they entered US illegally.

“Whether to deport them back home or to give them asylum, it doesn’t matter but we want our government deal with the government of United States to give the boys their freedom back,” said Yussuf.

Abdi Mohamed Ayaanle who is a brother of Nuur Mohamed said his brother who is now in jail has crossed thousands of miles to get better life but end up in detention in Florida.

“Our mother became bedridden after she heard the new of the arrest of her son, Nuur was the breadwinner of the family, he was doing business in South Africa and later decided to migrate to United States and crossing the border of US through Mexico he was arrested,” said Ayaanle.

The sentiment comes a day after Somali embassy in United States was accused of carrying out plans to deport dozens of asylum seeker arrested in US to Somalia.

Noor Mohamed Mohamud who is among dozens of detainees in Florida detention centre told Goobjoog News on phone said that Somali embassy in that country asked US government to return the asylum seekers to Somalia.

Mohamud said he started his perilous journey from Africa and spent over $ 20, 000 dollars to reach the US soil via Mexico.

Attempt made by Goobjoog news to reach Somalia’s ambassador Ahmed Issa Awad to US for comment did not bear fruit.

Every year, tens of thousands of African migrants risk their lives to try and enter Europe on unseaworthy boats in search for a better life.
