Ugaas Abdirisaaq Installed as Murusade Traditional Leader in Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Ugaas Abdirisaaq Ugaas Abdullahi Ugaas Xaashi Ugaas Faracadde was officially installed on Saturday as the traditional leader of the Murusade community during a major cultural ceremony in Mogadishu.
Among the key attendees was President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, alongside senior government officials, former political leaders, traditional elders from across Somalia and abroad, business figures, clerics and other invited guests.
The President congratulated the new Ugaas and wished him success in his traditional leadership, urging him to focus on the important role customary leaders play in preserving peace, resolving disputes and strengthening social unity.
“This gathering, which has brought together the wider Somali community, is an example that our people are bound by common heritage, faith, culture and the unity of Somalia,” President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said. “We attach special importance to cooperation with traditional leaders, as they are the backbone of reconciliation, state-building and the stability of the country.”
The President also called on the ugaasyo, suldaans, garaads, malaaqyo and other traditional leaders attending the ceremony to dedicate their efforts to uniting communities and safeguarding Somali values in order to build a peaceful, developed, prosperous and united Somalia.
Speakers at the ceremony described Ugaas Abdirisaaq as a leader with the wisdom, patience and experience needed to guide the Murusade community, noting that the role carries major responsibilities requiring fairness, cohesion and accountable leadership.
In his remarks, Ugaas Abdirisaaq thanked the community for its trust and pledged to work for peace, unity and development for both the Murusade people and Somali society more broadly.
Traditional elders continue to play a central role in Somalia, particularly in mediation, reconciliation and maintaining harmony within communities.
