GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUUSAMAREEB: Galmudug State has officially launched a voter registration campaign, kicking off preparations for its anticipated one-person-one-vote elections, marking a significant step in the region’s path toward democratic governance.

The campaign was inaugurated by Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoor-Qoor) at a ceremony held in Dhuusamareeb, the state capital.

Speaking at the launch, Galmudug’s Minister of Interior, Abdi Mohamed Jama, urged citizens to register and participate in choosing their future leaders through a direct electoral process.

“This marks a turning point in Galmudug’s political journey. I urge every eligible voter to take part,” said Minister Jama.

President Kariye emphasized the importance of inclusive participation and expressed gratitude to the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) for deploying officials to oversee the registration process.

“This is a national achievement, and Galmudug is proud to lead the way,” the president said.

The event was attended by members of both houses of the Galmudug State Assembly, NIEC officials, and representatives of the local community.

The voter registration drive is a critical milestone in Somalia’s broader democratization efforts, as the country works to transition from a clan-based power-sharing system to universal suffrage.
