Galmudug Political Engagement Intensifies as Liibaan Hasan Meets Community Leaders
GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUUSAMAREEB: Political engagement is intensifying in Galmudug following the annulment of the state’s recent election results, with community leaders and political figures continuing consultations ahead of a fresh electoral process.
One of Galmudug’s clans hosted a luncheon in Dhusamareeb on Monday for Liibaan Ahmed Hasan, a candidate for the state presidency, bringing together Deputy Information Minister Abdirahman Al-Adala, federal lawmakers, Galmudug officials, traditional elders and community representatives.
The discussions focused on social cohesion, consultation and political developments in Galmudug, according to organisers.
The meeting comes after Somalia’s Supreme Court in August annulled the results of the July 30 parliamentary and local council elections in Galmudug and ordered a new electoral process, creating fresh uncertainty over the state’s political transition.
Liibaan, who was endorsed by the ruling Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP) as its candidate for the Galmudug presidency in June, has been campaigning for support ahead of the leadership contest.
The Supreme Court ruling has effectively reopened the electoral process, making consultations among political actors, traditional leaders and communities an important part of efforts to shape the next phase of Galmudug’s leadership.
The latest gathering in Dhusamareeb reflects the continued mobilisation around the state’s political future, as candidates seek to build broader support while authorities work toward a new electoral process.
