Galmudug’s SEIT starts delegate registration for 2016 elections
Galmudug’s State Election Implementation Team (SEIT) has started enlisting the traditional elders in the State who will take part in the upcoming election amid reports say Somali electoral team opted to drop 51 delegates.
The chairman of Galmudug’s SEIT, Hussein Sheikh Mohamed affirmed that the commission had begun gathering the 135 elders that participated 2012 election.
“Our skilled employees started their work to conduct the registration. the elders pouring into Adado town as to participate the upcoming elections ”, Mohamed said.
He called on the residents of Adado town to welcome the huge throng coming the town to take part in the elections.
There have been circulating reports claiming the 2016 electoral facilitating teams have came up with plans to reduce the number of delegates from 14000 to 135 citing lack of fund for the elections.
In Somali leadership Forum held in Mogadishu earlier this month, Somali leaders agreed 14,000 delegates from Somali clans to cast their votes for members of the Lower House, while the regional states will select the members of the Upper House.
Somali government largely depends on UN to fill financial gaps facing the execution of election process.
