GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has appointed General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud as the new Chief of the Somali National Army, replacing General Odowaa Yuusuf Raage.
The Cabinet approved the leadership change, tasking General Mohamud with steering the army amid ongoing security challenges across the country.
A seasoned officer, General Mohamud previously led the Somali National Army’s Support Forces, managing operational planning, logistics, and troop capacity-building.
His appointment aims to strengthen national defense, enhance military effectiveness, and accelerate operations against groups threatening Somalia’s stability.
Government officials described the leadership shift as part of broader efforts to reinforce security institutions and safeguard peace across the nation.
