GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Migration and Citizenship Office has welcomed Germany’s decision to officially recognize the Somali Diplomatic Passport, a move hailed as a major step forward in bilateral cooperation and confidence-building.

The decision, published in Germany’s Federal Gazette on 1 December 2025, grants Somali diplomatic passport holders the right to enter and reside in Germany with full official recognition. Until now, the document had been accepted only at the point of departure from Germany, limiting its practical use.

Somali authorities said the move reflects growing international trust in the country’s upgraded identity and travel document systems, which have undergone significant reforms in recent years.

The Migration and Citizenship Office said Germany’s decision affirms Somalia’s ongoing efforts to modernize its migration services and improve passport security. It expressed hope that the development would encourage wider recognition of Somali travel documents among partner nations.
