Global and local response continue in support of Mogadishu terror attack relief efforts

International and local response towards the relief efforts in support of victims of Saturday terror attack which has now claimed 302 lives continued Tuesday with US and Qatar sending military air crafts with medical supplies.

US Airforce plane landed in Aden Adde mid morning Tuesday and shortly afterwards followed by Qatari military plane carrying medical supplies. This is in addition to Turkey’s which airlifted 35 patients Monday for further treatment in Ankara. The Turkish team also brought in 35 tonnes of medical supplies. Another team of doctors from Djibouti arrived in Mogadishu Monday to support local doctors who have been working round the clock in various hospitals attending to the victims. More than 400 people were admitted in several hospitals in the city.

Local airliner Daallo Airlines is also transporting cargo towards relief efforts to Mogadishu for free. The airline announced Monday all cargo meant to support the relief efforts will not be charged.

Hundreds of youth are also involved today in helping clear the debris and general clean up in the scene where several buildings came down even as recovery teams continue moving the debris in the hope of finding bodies trapped inside.

A volunteer team, Gurmad252 is running an online support service tracking the number of deaths and injured from various hospitals and providing information to families. Sumaya Ali Mire who had been reported missing was tracked yesterday and re-united with the family, the team said.

Meanwhile another team fundraising for the Aamin Ambulance which has played an instrumental role in providing emergency services since the attack started Saturday has so far raised 149,231 Kr ($18,336) just close to its 200,000kr ($24,574) target.
