Government Appeals for Public Support In Anti-Extremist Campaign

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: State Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Hirsi Gaani has called for national unity in the fight against extremist groups, urging citizens to support ongoing military operations across the country.
Speaking at a national media week forum in Mogadishu, Gaani praised recent gains by the Somali National Army in Lower Shabelle, Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan, where offensives have targeted militia strongholds and retaken contested areas.
He said public backing was essential not only for military success but also for enabling displaced families to return home. “A unified front between the government, security forces and citizens is the only path to lasting peace,” Gaani said.
The appeal comes as Somalia intensifies its campaign to weaken armed groups that have long undermined stability, with officials framing the effort as both a military and societal struggle.
