Government delegation due to meet clan elders in Beledweyne
The mediating committee appointed by Somali prime minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed to resolve the clan clashes in Hiran region are expected to have meeting with the clan elders in Beledweyne today.
Deligation led by Assistant minister for interior and federalism Abdirahman Bankah are in Beledweyne, the headquarters of Hiran region for the second day.
The committee’s priority is to facilitate fast reconciliation process and bring the sides into the negotiating table so as to end the deadly clashes that has claimed the lives of more than 20 people and forced large number of people to flee their homes in fear of the escalating clan clashes.
Some of the elders in the region boycotted the mediation process but there are efforts to persuade them to join the process without conditions.
