Government forces and AMISOM to start military operations in Gedo region
Government forces in Gedo region stated that the second phase of offensive military operations against Al shabab will start soon.
Senior SNA official in the region Col. Osman Nuh told Goobjoog FM that government forces and Ethiopian troops are fully prepared to carry out intensive operations to maintain the security of the region.
He underlined that the joint forces’ priority is to capture the areas outside the control of federal government especially Bardhere district, one Al-shabab’s stronghold in the region.
Federal government forces getting support from African Union peace-keeping troops seized the control of over 10 areas in Bay, Bakol, Gedo, Hiran and Galgadud regions.
While attending US-Africa summit in Washington earlier this month, president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Somali national army and African Union peace-keeping troops will launch new military operations to push Al-shabab from more territories.
“Operation Indian Ocean is going to start within the next few days,” president Hassan said.
