GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU:  The Somali Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced that the cost of Hajj travel packages will be set at $4,484, down from last year’s $5,230, saving $746 for Somali citizens going to the Hajj and the country $8 million. This move is aimed at curbing the exploitative practices of third-party vendors who have made the process expensive and time-consuming.

The new regulation ensures greater accessibility for Somali citizens, making Hajj travel packages affordable. This will not only fulfil the government’s religious obligations but also create opportunities for its citizens to engage in religious tourism. The regulation will address the issue of unaffordable Hajj packages, which has been a source of social unrest in the country. It is expected to promote equal access to social stability and address systemic corruption in the Hajj Services industry. The move is also expected to increase demand for Hajj travel-related services and create employment opportunities in the sector.

Overall, the new regulation is a step towards promoting inclusivity and socio-economic progress in Somalia and a significant milestone in the country’s efforts towards promoting religious tourism and boosting economic growth.
